A Theory of Home is a series of diptychs, combining colour portraits and archival images, which have been chosen by the subjects and describe ‘home’ to them.
With time I started to I realise, that the word ‘home’ – regardless of its common use – might not necessarily be the place we live in. ‘Home’ is a very subjective term and its definitions are not fixed. It might vary from a place, to a person, to an object or even to a state of mind.
Home might be a familiar place – a place we return to – a place we have left behind – or even a place we have never been to before.
This project is an investigation of the symbiotic relationship between a person’s identity and their perception of home. Home can take on many shapes, yet its influence on the individual remains apparent.
